A USB wireless network adapter is a device used to allow a computer to be a part of the wireless LAN. Wireless network adapters have a radio transmitter and receiver that enables them to “talk” with other computing device even without wires.
A wireless network adapters also exist in several different form factors. The most common PCI wireless adapters are cards that were made to be installed inside a desktop. add-in cards designed for installation inside a desktop computer having a PCI bus. USB wireless adapters, on the other hand, connect to the external USB port of a computing device. It can connect to a standard USB port usually located on the back of laptops or PCs. Usually, USB network adapters are almost the same size as PC Card adapters. Two LED lights on the adapter indicate its power and network link status.
Anyone can install a USB wireless network adapter. Just have a short USB cable, this usually comes with a unit anyway. This will connect the adapter to the computer. You don’t need a separate power cord. The power source is the host computer. USB adapter's wireless antenna and circuitry remain external to the computer at all times. There are units where the antenna may be adjusted manually to improve the WiFi signal. The device driver software that comes with it has an equivalent function as in other types of network adapters.
You may be able to find two kinds of wireless USB adapters, a "basic" model and a "compact". The compact model is marketed for travelers because it is small and the set up is much easier that makes it ideal for those who are always mobile.
There are different kinds of brands and you will surely find one kind that will suit your budget. I suggest that you scout around first before settling on a brand that you want to purchase. Also, search online to find good deals.
